BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF WEST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to help assist staff in all recreation activities during the summer program as well as assist staff serving lunch to kids during the summer lunch program.

Volunteers are needed to help with our Homework Assistance program to assist youth after school after SEPTEMBER 1st 2010.  For just a few hours a week, you can not only help children with their homework and education, but make a difference, establish a bond, and experience one of the most rewarding feelings by touching the life of a child.  Volunteers MUST complete a thorough volunteer application process, an orientation, and serve a total of 8 hours.

 

CORY’S KITCHEN FOOD PANTRY

Minimum age:   12(with parent) 13+ without parent

Volunteer Opportunities:  Food Packer volunteers are responsible for separating and packing all food, including canned, meats, produce, drinks and breads at Calvary Chapel.  Arrange the different bags (paper and color-coded plastic) ready to be filled with food.  To ensure we serve as many people as possible, it is imperative to separate and divide food correctly.  When food is ready to be placed in bags, food packers pack the food and make sure all bags are ready to give to clients.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers needed in:  blood services, public affairs, disaster services, fundraising, and support services.

 

HUNTINGTON HOSPITAL

Minimum age:   High School Students having completed the 9th Grade

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers act as a receptionist for the staff, answer telephones, assemble patient charts, light clerical duties, discharge patients, pass/pick up meal trays.  Volunteers are also needed to visit newly admitted patients, problem solve and advocate on their behalf.

 

Volunteer are need to greet patients, answer phones, assist patients to clinics, distribute patient education materials, inform patients of wait times and distribute magazines.  Volunteers may also, assist with taking phone orders and request for equipment.  Volunteers will deliver carts of supplies to various departments within the hospital.

 

Volunteer are needed to assist staff with patient’s escorts and transports.  Serve as a liaison with the patient's family and run errands for staff.  Volunteers are also needed to call donors to schedule appointments from existing call sheets.  Volunteers assist with documents appointment, messages and comments on the computer.

 

Volunteers are needed to check in visitors, distribute pagers and packets, escort visitors, monitor visitor's lounge, and relay messages to staff and visitors.  In addition, volunteers are needed to work closely with staff providing clerical assistance, getting treatment rooms ready, stocking supplies, preparing hot/cold packs.

 

Volunteers may also provide library services to the hospital patients and provide magazines for waiting rooms.  Volunteer are needed to assist and greet customers with purchases, stock shelves, organize display cases and sell merchandise.  Assist with inventory and pricing of merchandise and operate a cash register.   Excellent customer service skills required.

 

Volunteer are needed to work in the thrift shop and assist customers, stocking supplies, pricing items.  Excellent customer service skills required.

 

Volunteer are needed to play the piano in the dining room for rehab patients during lunch and or dinner.

 

KIDSPACE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  Kidspace Children's Museum provides high school students with practical work experience and in depth training in the museum profession.  Interns contribute to timely projects, gain insight into the functions of individual departments, and learn about the Museum's various programs for guests.  Students can earn community service of other high school credits through their schools.  Kidspace Children's Museum is a fact paced, highly creative environment and interns will be expected to actively engage in all activities.

 

Volunteer positions include facilitation of guest exploration in the exhibit gallery and outdoor areas. In addition, Education Volunteers can assist with educational programs along-side Kidspace Educators.  Floor support positions are suitable for volunteers with an energetic, friendly demeanor and proven interest in working with children.

 

WE REQUIRE THAT ALL VOLUNTEERS ATTEND AN ORIENTATION BEFORE THEY CAN BEGIN SERVICE, AND CURRENTLY ALL ORIENTATIONS UNTIL APRIL ARE FULL.    WE ALSO REQUIRE THAT ALL VOLUNTEERS WISHING TO DO THEIR SERVICE AT KIDSPACE COMMIT TO 3 SEPARATE DAYS, WITH A 4 HOUR SHIFT EACH OF THOSE THREE DAYS FOR A TOTAL OF 12 HOURS.  

 

CHANCELLOR PLACE OF PASADENA

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to read to residents weekly for 1 1/2 hours.  Volunteers are also needed to participate in arts and crafts, assisting residents, set up activity - gather residents, supplies, etc.

PASADENA RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Minimum age:   14

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed for assistance with events, programs, office work, gardening, organizing and cleaning.  Meals of Love is also another volunteer opportunity that is good for groups or families that would like to cater or cook for the families at the “House”.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY PRIDE

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed for the SGV Pride Festival for 2010 on Sunday September 12th.  Volunteers are needed from 9am to 6pm with various volunteer opportunities. Ages 16 and up are welcome to volunteer.

 

PASADENA SYMPHONY

Minimum age:   14

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers needed to assist in the set up and oversight of musical instruments displayed for an interactive educational experience for children of all ages.  Volunteers must have an interest and willingness to work with young children and parents.  Knowledge of musical instrument or instruments is helpful but not essential.  Volunteers are also needed to be ticket takers and ushers for the 2010-2011 Classic Series and Holiday POPS held at the Ambassador Auditorium.  These volunteers are a key part of the concert series and responsible for taking tickets at the entrance to the venue and directing patrons to their seats accurately and graciously.  In addition, volunteers are needed to be venue assistants.  Energetic and enthusiastic high school and college students who can assist in light venue setup and in welcoming our 2010-2011 Classic Series and Holiday POPS held at the Ambassador Auditorium attendees.  Volunteers are also needed as greeters year round and are responsible for handing out programs, answering general questions and providing a friendly and enthusiastic presence at the public events.

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to assist in stocking shelves and organizing food bags. Volunteers are also needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays to assist in preparing and organizing the meal bags before delivery.

CITY OF PASADENA’S HUMAN SERVICES & RECREATION

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to be Youth Sports Coaches at Victory Park Center 2575 Paloma St in Pasadena. Volunteers will assist children ages 8-14 with Flag Football, Basketball.

Eaton Canyon Nature Center

Volunteer Opportunities:  Eaton Canyon is looking for volunteers to help out with various activities within the canyon from Exotic plant removal to educational demonstrations, exhibits, animal care to office or archival work or some scientific research. Some of the duties include:

GUARDIAN ANGELS SAFTEY PATROL

Volunteer Opportunities: Dedicated individual or groups needed to volunteer to provide citizens safety patrols in the Pasadena area.  Areas of patrol will initially be Old Town Pasadena & Goldline.  Volunteer opportunity will include not only safety patrols but some self defense training.

Volunteer Opportunities We need lots of volunteers and have several opportunities available for those who would like to give back to the community. We have 2 locations: San Pedro and Pico Rivera. Whether you would like to help out at events, help with animals or help with fundraising and outreach there is something for everyone.

 

ROSEMEAD

 

MARYVALE

Minimum age:   10 (for group activities w/supervision) 16 for all others

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for The Guadalupe Center to help sort eh donated items and organize the sales from all donated clothing and small household items. This volunteer opportunity can be either a short or long term opportunity needed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am-12pm.

 

Volunteers are also needed for The Day Care program to support staff of the Rosemead and Duarte Day Care facilities.  The ages of the children the volunteers spent time with run from infant to 10 years of age.  This opportunity is needed all year long at least 2 hours a week.  (TB test all required before can volunteer.)

 

Tutors are needed and appreciated to help out the girls at Maryvale in order to strengthen their academic skills.  Tutors are needed during the School year from (September to July) for 30 min to 1 hour sessions, usually after school during the work week (Monday through Thursday) (TB test all required before can volunteer.)

 

Group volunteers are also welcomed from 10 years of age and up to spend time with the girls though organized activities.  These activities include organized parties and arts/crafts, or outdoor activities.  Creativity is encouraged.  Group volunteers are also needed to support Maryvale through activities such as painting the girls play equipment.  (Short Term…one time activity) anything from a couple of hours activity to full day activity.

 

SAN GABRIEL

 

ZOOH CORNER RABBIT RESCUE

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  We need help caring for the rabbits at the shelter on a daily basis, especially weekdays - we clean, feed, exercise and care for the rabbits every day.  We also need help bagging hay, fundraising (including gathering product donations), fostering rabbits until forever homes are found, working at events and doing monthly weekend adoption days at local stores (etc).

 

ALDERWOOD MANOR

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to work with our elder residents creating arts & crafts.  Volunteers are also needed to visit one on one with our elder residents.  This is a great opportunity to become friends with our residents.  Volunteers may choose to plant trees as part of our Plant a Tree Program.  This is a wonderful opportunity to plant trees for our residents to enjoy while also giving to our environment.  In addition, volunteers are needed to plan and prepare Birthday Parties for our residents.  This is a wonderful time to celebrate with our residents.  Musical volunteers are needed!  Please come share your musical talent with our residents.  Volunteers with pets are needed!  This is a wonderful opportunity to share your pets with our residents.

Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are needed to help others 12 to 17 ½ years of age improve their Reading and Writing skills.  Volunteer hours are available Monday – Thursdays, 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

HUNTINGTON LIBRARY

Volunteer OpportunitiesHigh School Volunteers are needed throughout Huntington Library supporting staff and variety of projects.  High school volunteers welcome visitors to the galleries, facilitate demonstrations in the Plant Conservatory, work in the gardens and assist staff and instructors public programs.  Huntington staff provides high school volunteers with an orientation and appropriate training course's).  Volunteers must complete a minimum of 6 months.  Hours of service will vary according to projects.  New volunteers start their service in March or September but applications are accepted year round.  To be considered for March 2011application must be turned in no later than January 7th  2011.

THINK TOGETHER

Minimum age:   15

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to assist with our after school programs:  Healthy Living, Math and Literacy activities, Character Education, Homework Help and Tutoring, Mentoring, and so much more.

 

Volunteers are needed to build and maintain relationships between THINK TOGETHER and their high schools.  In order to attract new volunteers, representatives will spread information about THINK TOGETHER in their schools.  Representatives must be familiar with volunteer roles in order to answer questions from prospective volunteers.  Volunteers schedule volunteer orientations with groups of 5 or more at the school or with clubs and organizations.  Volunteers will answer student questions concerning volunteer requirements and experience.  Volunteers also keep collateral items at your high school stocked and updated.  In addition, volunteers develop and maintain a list of high school clubs and contacts.

 

Volunteers are needed to do research, identify and develop appropriate "Green and Healthy Living" curriculum for our elementary and middle students.

 

Volunteers are needed to assist students with their homework, tutoring one on one to help children improve basic reading and math skills, assisting with simple computer programs and or physical fitness activities, reading stories to children and listening to them read aloud and helping children with enrichment (disguised learning) activities, as well as mentoring teens to develop critical life skills.

SIERRA MADRE ROSE FLOAT ASSOCIATION

Minimum age:   10

Volunteer Opportunities:  The Sierra Madre Rose Float Association is in need of volunteers all year around starting from March to January. Construction of Float begins in March and ends in December; Decoration of float starts in November. Various volunteer opportunities are available for all ages. 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  Decorators of float must be 14 years of age and older (and not have a fear of heights) All volunteering will be done at "THE FLOAT BARN" at Sierra Vista Park 587 E. AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MILITARY HISTORY

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to help with various projects at the museum.  Also volunteers can assist as docents.

 

Volunteers are needed to assist in vehicle restoration.  Tasks include: sand, clean and wash exhibit vehicles.  Volunteers are also needed to assist in landscaping at the museum.  Tasks include planting and clean-up the landscaped areas surrounding the museum.

 

GREATER EL MONTE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  Greater El Monte Community Hospital is looking for volunteers to assist visitors and family members at the hospital, to give clerical assistance in both patient care and non-patient care areas.  A minimum of 100 hours of service in a four hour per week schedule is required.

 

SOUTH EL MONTE LIBRARY

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to help assist the "Summer Reading Program at South El Monte Public Library.  Volunteers will assist library staff; Shelving books, filing, assist at circulation desk, handing out prizes to children for the reading program and with various projects and programs.

WHITTIER NARROWS NATURE CENTER

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for Saturday Nature Center Clean up every 4th Saturday of each month at 9:00am.  Please bring you own gloves (if you have them) water and hats.  Groups and Families are welcome!  All youth volunteers must complete a permission slip with parent signature.

ANGEL INTERFAITH NETWORK

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteers are needed to count, record and shelve baby clothing and infant care items so that they are accessible and ready for delivery.  Maintain a clean and orderly storeroom.  Volunteers are also needed to record donors, financial contributions, donated items, service delivery information into the data base.

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteer ages 13 and up are needed to assist with basic office duties, data entry, clerical, filing, etc. Volunteers are needed Monday - Thursday in starting in August from 9:30am to 3:00pm.

 

Volunteers are needed to assist in the Senior Wellness Program with stretching/exercises, memory games, card games and craft on Wednesdays  9am-11am

Minimum age:   16

Volunteer Opportunities:  School program volunteer is needed to inspire curiosity and share history with school aged children.  Tour guide volunteers are also needed.  In addition, Museum host volunteers are needed.  California State Parks is currently seeking volunteers at Pio Pico SHP, Los Encinos SHP, and Los Angeles SHP.  We hope you can come and join the State Parks Volunteers in Parks program!
